Beyond project cost, one of the biggest questions in any home remodel is how long it will take. There are many variables that affect the schedule. Such as project complexity and size, plan drafting, permitting, material and labor availability, and even weather. As projects get larger, the likelihood of schedule delays increases. That said, the following provides a general idea of how long different types of remodels typically take.

Bathroom Remodel
Cosmetic: (flooring, paint, fixtures) – 1 to 2 weeks
Standard: (shower relocation, new vanity & counter, electrical)– 4 to 8 weeks
Major: (new layout, custom cabinets, steam shower, custom closets) – 8 to 12 weeks
Kitchen Remodel
Cosmetic: (re-finish cabinets, paint, fixtures, swap appliances) – 4 to 6 weeks
Standard: (new cabinets, minor layout change, minor utility work, flooring) – 8 to 12 weeks
Major: (custom cabinets, exterior openings, major utility work, major layout change) – 3 to 6 months
Addition
Small: (single room) – 2 to 3 months
Medium: (new suite) – 3 to 6 months
Large: (major expansion / second story) – 6 to 10+ months
Additional Timelines
Allow additional time for the design and permitting process. These timelines do not run concurrent with one another.
Design & Plans – 1 to 2 months
Permitting & HOA Approval – 1 to 2 months
